These are replacement pads for our walnut leather strop. These are made of dense 8-9 ounce veg tanned leather (flesh side up), which we find ideal for stropping and charging with compound. They come with velcro sewn to the underside for quick attachment/removable from the walnut base. They have a 1/4 inch hole for hanging up on peg hooks, nails, etc.
We generally recommend the rough-side up for stropping. It works faster and takes compound better. However, certain individuals, such as those who sharpen straight razors, may prefer the smoother skin side up. The skin side is smoother, stiffer, and can make a very nice final touch. Say you order 4 and want one of them to be smooth-side, just mention it in the "notes" box at checkout.
